About Stephen Mardell, MFT

Stephen has been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences since 1996. In preparation for licensure, he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and then obtained a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Stephen has been delivering comprehensive, strength-based therapeutic services to children and families since 1989. He has a wide range of experience in providing individual and group therapy to children and adolescents, and including problems with: anxiety and mood; psychosis; ADHD and Learning Disabilities; defiant/disruptive behaviors; substance use; grief, loss, and trauma; attachment and separation; parent-child conflict; families of divorce; autism and pervasive developmental disorders; crisis management, and other mental health challenges. Along with his clinical work, Stephen also has considerable knowledge and experience collaborating with a variety of mental health providers, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, behavior specialists, and in-patient psychiatric staff. He has interfaced with numerous allied service agencies, including local school districts, Regional Centers, Department of Social Services, Department Mental Health, and the Juvenile Justice system. Stephen has been particularly involved with helping his clients gain access to special education programs, vocational training, and other important benefits and services.

In addition to his role as a clinician, Stephen has for several years provided clinical supervision and training to other mental health professionals. He also has extensive experience in administration and program management in the community mental health care system.
